Do you have a New Year’s resolution?

Every new year we make resolutions to change aspects of ourselves we feel are negative, be it breaking a bad habit such as smoking or making an effort to be more active. However, a majority of us revert back to how we were before and experience the feeling of failure.

Yet it doesn’t have to be that way. I’m a firm believer that with the support of family, friends,  and some hard work; anything is possible. That’s why, this year, I’d like to invite you to share your New year’s resolution with the rest of the community and everyone at Bingo Vega can work together to help one other to stick through with our goal.

Here’s how:

  1. Share your new year’s resolution below in the comment box
  2. Follow the SMART tips below from Life Hacker (see below)
  3. 21 days from now, I’ll write a follow-up post and we can all update one other on our goals

The S.M.A.R.T. System:

  1. Specific. Don’t just say “Lose weight.” Decide to “Lose 12 pounds.”
  2. Measurable. Instead of “Be better about corresponding with old friends,” decide to “Send out birthday and holiday cards to my high school friends.”
  3. Achievable. “Be the perfect employee/mom/sister/spouse” is an admirable goal, but nobody’s perfect, no matter how resolved they are. Make your resolution something that’s possible—like, “Improve next year’s performance review by at least one grade.”
  4. Realistic. You’ve only got so many hours in the day, so make your goals realistic based on what resources and tools you’ve got on hand. Learning how to milk a cow, for example, is less realistic for someone who lives in the middle of Manhattan.
  5. Timely. Since these are New Year’s resolutions, set goals you can reach at most within the next 12 months. Giving yourself a “deadline” of sorts will help you figure out where you should be when while tracking your progress.

I do have a couple of new years resolutions. My first one is uh oh,,,,,,, to try and lose some weight. I know, i shouldnt of said that but it is a must. I went to the Dr. the other day and just about fell off the scales. Anyway my second one, well i am not sure if it is a resolution or not. It is about my dad. He is only 53 years old and we found out that he has level 4 cancer like 3 days before xmas. It has devastated me to no end. He has surgery next week to see what they can do to help him. Chances are very very slim. So my resolution for this is to thank him everyday for being the best dad ever. And to spend everyday with him and help him be as strong as he can be. I come to vega to try to escape the pain and try to get my mind off things and everyone here is so warming and compassionate. ty bingo vega and to all the wonderful roomies. hugs to all………… Sunshinesz

Thank you for sharing that. I'm very sorry to hear of your father. Our family received a scare last year with my step father having prostate cancer and thankfully his surgery was successful. I'm sending a lot of good thoughts to you and your family, and hope that everything goes well with the surgery.

    Hi Sunshine

Sorry for this late reply. I understand what you are going through cause I am going through the same thing with my mum. Almost 2 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer after numerous chemo and a full hysterectomy, she was in remission for almost a year. Last July her cancer came back, a thumbnail size tumor was found in her brain. Luckily it was caught early, they tried this new chemo drug plus radiation and she is doing remarkable well. My prayers will be with you and your family. With medicine and technology today I am sure your dad will beat this cancer. My mum is 68 yrs old. Tell your dad to have confidence and be strong that was what my mum did and it is working

    Take care
