Archive for November 2008
I’m very lucky. Being a Canadian with American parents, I’m spoiled with the prospect of eating Thanksgiving dinner in October and November. I look forward to the chance of driving 5,000 calories into my body in one sitting, becoming lethargic, and then vowing to never eat again. I swear that after eating Thanksgiving dinner my house could catch on fire and I’d still think it would have been a pretty decent day. I’m like a tranquilized dog who lies on the grass and doesn’t care that the mailman is coming.
I have to admit that there’s something about Thanksgiving which piques my curiosity, as I’ve never tried it before and have always wondered about it. I’m talking about the ominous cylinder of red goop — cranberry sauce.

Some people go absolutely insane over cranberry sauce. While some people build their entire Thanksgiving dinner fantasies around Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie or Aunt Mary’s stuffing, there are some that salivate at the thought of cranberry sauce (and after hearing a bell, I’m sure). I like to consider myself a brave person; I’ve tried a lot of foods in my 28 years. Heck, when I was a baby I used to try all kinds of crazy things: peas, carrots, and beef puree come to mind. I just can’t bring myself to try this one thing.
Yet, I find myself at the dining table staring at it. I’m helpless under cranberry sauce’s spell. I get the 1000-yard stare, and by this time I’m probably mouth-breathing as I try to unravel its many mysteries. Do I eat it with turkey in the same bite? Do I cut it with a knife or just mash it around into easily manipulated shapes with my fork? Has the sauce somehow defected from the desert line-up, and if so, are the other deserts angry?
Thinking about it logically, I know that I’m missing out on something. Something that looks the way that cranberry sauce does couldn’t be featured in so many Thanksgiving dinner productions if there wasn’t something remarkable about it.
I think I’ve just talked myself into it. I’ve been married, I have children, I think it’s time for me to move onto the next phase of my life and try cranberry sauce. Wish me luck.
And here’s to wishing everyone luck today with our Thanksgiving specials today. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone, and thank you for playing at Vega!
Bingo Vega is constantly thinking of you, our players. Every decision that we discuss we’re always putting you in the forefront of our conversation — “How will the players perceive this change”, “what can we do for our players to show our appreciation”, “what fun can we bring to the community.” Most of the time, the changes and promotions that we implement are received with a very positive reaction, but being human, we understand that there are policies and changes that take place which leaves you unhappy or concerned.
In the interest of open communication and transparency, I’d like to talk about the recent bonus structure changes that were made. We realize that it would be impossible to please all parties all the time, so we’re in the process of trying to get the perfect balance of bonuses, promotions, big money games, and tournaments so that everyone can find something in which they’re proud to play at Vega.
I would really like to discuss this with you as I know that there are a lot of mixed feelings with the structure, and I want to open the door for you to comment and tell us if you like the new bonus structure, if you dislike the new bonuses, did you like them better before the change, or what would be the ideal (yet realistic) bonus structure for you?
At Bingo Vega we have always tried to maintain the value to our players of “You’ve talked, we’ve listened”. Hopefully we can foster that relationship again through this blog, and through posts like these.
I’m excited to hear everyone’s thoughts. Please, let me know what you think of the new changes by leaving your thoughts in the comment box below. Thanks!
When we decided to develop and maintain a blog for the purposes of communicating with our players, we were stuck with the one last detail, “what the heck should we name it?” So, we decided to throw it back to our players, and for the first couple weeks we held our “Name our Blog” contest.
The feedback was simply amazing, having over 161 entries that the staff deliberated on. Our process was that we would all pick our top five names, trade lists, and see what was popular between us. Although it sounded good in theory, when it came time to compare, we noticed that we had a difference in tastes.
However, we did decide on the top 5 finalists, you have voted, and scores are tallied. It was a very close race, with the top two entries being neck and neck the entire time. Luckily, there was a winner (there was no contingency plan if there had been a tie), so here, officially, the Bingo Vega Blog will now be known as…
Vega Vine
This submission was sent by our own “Trish2997″ and received 34 votes as well as the tip prize of $100! A round of applause please for our winning entry!

As I’ve said, it was a close contest, but there could be only one winner. I’d like to send out my sincere appreciation for all that contributed to naming our blog. Congratulations to all runner ups who’ve received their prizes of 20BBs!
Below is a summary of the contest’s results:
- Trish2997 won $100 CASH for her suggestion “Vega Vine”… WTG!
- Grin won $20 BB for suggesting “Vega News & Views”.
- Cathaswings won $20 BB for suggesting “Vega Station”.
- Mermaidcutie won $20 BB for suggesting “Galaxy Blog”.
- Fijiboy won $20 BB for suggesting “Vega Comm”.
I would like to welcome everyone to the Vega Vine. Stay tuned for a new banner graphic reflecting this change, and for more contests to come. Thanks everyone!

Continuing along the same vein as this week’s post, “Who will be the next CM of the Year?” we thought that it would be a great idea to shine the spotlight on our amazing CMs. We’ve asked our CMs to provide a little information about themselves to help our ongoing efforts for everyone to get to know each other.
So, without further ado, this weeks “Featured CM” is none other than CM Bridget.
